quit beating around the bush and buy one
I built a similar mount from steel stock years ago before people were mounting their winches in receiver hitches. Now you can buy one premade. My advice, just buy one. Its a great design, fits the warn winches very well, and makes the winch a truly multipurpose tool. I use mine with a receiver tube bolted to my trailer for car recovery. Get your truck stuck in the woods (like I did last week?). Stick it in the hitch and pull yourself out. The base of the multi mount is built so that it sits flat on a level surface - great if you want to install on the deck of your trailer or a fabricated bumper.The multi mount does add about 20lbs to the winch, which puts it just past the point of being comfortable for one person to carry much of a distance. The supplied battery connections and cables are great quality.
