MLD in pictures ...
I am a massage therapist, and I took a Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) class. This book was on the Resources list. It was a decision between this book and the $200 "Foeldi's Textbook of Lymphology".I purchased this book, and am GLAD I did!It sticks strictly to the task of MLD. It addresses the physiology of the lymphatic system only to the point of what I need to know as a MT (great diagrams and pictures of how things work). It shows the full MLD sequence in pictures (with markered-in arrows and lines on the model pointing the way to the correct drainage points) and descriptions.Since I do NOT wish to continue past MLD (into lymphedema treatment, etc) this is just perfect for me.This small book is also a great "primer" into further studies. If you wish to further your education into Lymphedema studies, then by all means purchase the $200 Foeldi book.If you wish to utilize MLD in a superficial, non-medical sense on...

Good reference
I am a massage therapist. Lymphatic massage can be a great tool to have on your belt. This book gives you a good start and as an add on to your practice. It is no substitute for a formal program such as Vodder, nor is any book or video. It is a great way to help you decide if you wish to invest the time and money in formal training. Glad I bought it.

Very clear and informative
This video dy-mysitfies Lympahtic Drainage therapy- and makes it easy to understand. Like all the Real Bodywork videos, it is filmed very well, with great computer graphics. If you want to help clients with edema, this is the video to get. I did the techniques on a client with swelling in her wrist, and it went down after only one session! Thank you Real Bodywork for the great tool.

Customer Review

Worth it!
I bough this product besides the bad reviews... I have tried a couple of times with diet and exercise and I really note the difference after just a couple of uses it. My skin looks more smooth that before, reducing the look of orange skin. However, in order to avoid any injury to your skin, you have to use the vacuum with the roll-on that it brought or just an oily cream that allow the vacuum to run smooth in your skin. It is important to notice that you are not going to reduce cellulite by only making some massage, you need to change your lifestyle, because without changing your diet and making exercise, no matter how much you spend in anti cellulite products, the cellulite aren't going to disappear .

Very informative
This video is very well presented- it covers the lymphatic system in detail, and shows the techniques clearly. I think this is very valuable information for any massage therapist or anyone who wants to work on a family member. This video is especially made as training for a massage therpist, but I think that anyone could learn from it because the presentation is so clear!

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

In the case of upper extremity lymphedema caused by breast cancer surgery, it is necessary to re-route the flow of stagnated lymph in the subcutaneous tissues of the arm around the blocked axillary area towards and into the axillary lymph nodes on... In addition to increased lymphatic activity, the light directional pressure in the working phase of the strokes causes lymphatic fluid to move in the desired direction, thus contributing to the reduction of the swelling. The overall goal of MLD in the treatment of lymphedema is to re-route the flow of stagnated lymphatic fluid around blocked areas into more centrally located healthy lymphatic vessels, which eventually drain into the venous system. Certain MLD strokes are designed to manipulate lymph vessels located in the subcutaneous tissues of larger body surfaces, such as the trunk, other techniques are better suited to be applied on contoured surfaces, such as the extremities. These groups of lymph nodes represent the drainage areas for the stagnant lymph fluid located in the affected upper extremity and need to be manipulated prior to initiating the treatment of the arm itself. In order to achieve the desired effect, the pressure in the working phase should be sufficient enough to stretch the subcutaneous tissues against the fascia (a structure separating the skin from the muscle layer) located underneath, but not to... During the working phase, which can be applied with one or both hands, the palmar surface of the hand moves dynamically over the skin.

Looking at a sample of 65 clients who presented in 2011 with various conditions and requesting manual lymphatic drainage massage, there is some correlation in inflammatory conditions and their symptoms. With regards to fertility issues and difficulty to conceive, fertility clinics do recommend manual lymphatic drainage as an aid to prepare the body for pregnancy. Water retention cases were measured before and after performing manual lymphatic drainage with varying results. Although we cannot measure the exact impact that manual lymphatic drainage had on clients, the feedback from people suffering from sinus congestion was that the mechanical action of working on the sinuses helped to breathe better. Related conditions included food intolerances, skin disorders, respiratory issues like hayfever and circulatory issues like Raynaud’s Disease (cold fingers syndrome). Manual lymphatic drainage. Another case of oedema on one arm showed a reduction in size by 1cm after applying lymphatic drainage. A case of swollen ankles, for example, were one foot was slightly swollen while the other had oedema, had the following results: the slighly swollen foot reduced in size by 0. Representing 19% of the sample, clients presented conditions including endometriosis, PCOS (policystic ovaries), heavy and painful periods, vestibulitis (painful intercourse), fertility issues (some were having IVF).
