it's just a great little juicer
I just bought one of these and have to say that my expectations were pretty low. This is the second manual juicer I have bought and the first one was useless.A few things I really like about this juicer: 1. It's manual, which alot of people seem to be saying is a "con" of the juicer, but I think it's awsome. You use no electricity, you can take it anywhere, and you even get a little arm excersize while using it. SO to those whimps who are complaining about the hand crank I say to you go out and spend your $250 on an electric one and quit bashing this great little unit! I mean seriously, it's not like the company advertized that the juicer would crank ITSELF. 2. The juicer came with several extra parts. I was pleased to see that the juicer came with extra of the items most likely to wear out or break, such as bushings etc. I am an auto mechanic, so I don't guess I am really qualified to say that it was "easy" to put together, but I had not...

Excellent value for the money
I use this juicer for juicing leafy greens and wheatgrass, and it performs outstandingly well. Assembly, cleaning, etc., are straightforward and quick. The product is very effectively designed and produces high quality green juices that are not exposed to heat and oxidation that can occur with high-speed, electric masticating juicers. I have a (pricy) Champion juicer that I use for juicing carrots, beets, etc., but for greens and grasses, this inexpensive little machine is definitely the way to go.

I bought this juicer after trying an orangex juicer that broke on the 4th orange I put through it. My Hamilton-Beach juicer has lasted through a whole bag now, so here's the scoop:Good things:1) Rack & pinion action effectively transfers the applied force to the squeezer. There's no off-axis force so you don't have to worry about the whole darn thing tipping over when you bear down.2) Gratifyingly simple to disassemble and clean.3) The metal grate's edges are machined smooth - - no worries about getting cut (one of the problems I had with the orangex product).4) When you remove your juice glass, a drip cup swings into place to keep residual juice drippings off your countertop. Very simple but effective
The juicer works well and the other reviewers have got it right. I just wanted to add two observations to buyers. First, the juicer is very tall so it doesn't fit underneath you kitchen cabinets. Second, there is a limit to the size of the fruit you can juice. The only oranges I could find at first where large eating oranges and although they could be juiced not all of the orange was juiced. When I started using valencia oranges which are smaller and tangerines it completely juices the fruit.

I tried some cheaper pressure juicers like arcosteel and typhoon. Although these two got the idea, they were far away from jucing oranges (they can do lemons and limes OK). Thyphoon got some design issues though. Hamilton Beach is good for small and mid-size oranges (haven't tried large orange or grapefruit yet). It has enough power and capacity to get all the juice out. I can get one glass of juice from two oranges whereas it took three oranges with arcosteel and more with typhoon.HB has larger and stronger pressure cup that gets the job done. The strainer has little round holes all over the place so juice finds its way down. Others had fewer but larger holes which allowed the white stuff inside the orange get into the juice but also smashed the orange against nonperforated surface. HB's strainer holds the pulp stuck inside wall which can be later scraped and put bak into the juice or discarded. It is not the intention to callect pulp this way probably but I usually...

Full of good surprises
I am partial to the masticating (rather than spinning centrifugal) juicers for reasons I won't go into here, so I went nuts shopping trying to fit my budget. I looked over this model quite a few times thinking it wouldn't be suitable for more than wheatgrass, or assuming it would be a lot of extra work.Turns out that it is so easy to use I can't hardly believe more reviewers don't talk about it. Granted I chop the veggies, but to give you a frame of reference it's less effort to turn the handle than to tamp the veggies down the chute, and you have to do that even with an electric (not that either is hard). I could liken the manual/electric usage to driving manual/automatic transmission. I actually prefer this manual over the electric masticating I have used most days. Staying actively engaged makes it go by faster or something.It is also extremely efficient. I have also used an Omega 8005 and feel like I not only saved money up front, but am spending less...

Fantastic value
I just bought this model and it is far and away the best value I have seen. I have been using a Juiceman 410 for about 6 months, a centrifugal model, and I wanted to try one of the masticating/auger types. The Z-star manual juicer is a single auger juicer without the motor, and cranking the handle was a breeze. I performed a test with it and my Juiceman, where I juiced an apple, lemon, kiwi, 4 strawberries, and 1/8 honeydew, all unpeeled, in each machine, and the Z-star produced more juice. The Juiceman juice was smoother and had a whipped texture, but the Z-star made more and all the pulp was bone dry. In my opinion, there is no reason to buy a motorized single auger juicer as long as they make this one.

by the time the plastic motor housing broke on the Jack Lalanne model i'd been using, i knew enough about juicing to know that i wanted to try a non-centrifugal machine. read tons of reviews and agonized sufficiently and was on the verge of buying the Omega 8005 when i noticed this manual juicer. it employs more-or-less the same principles, with the obvious exception that you have to turn the crank as opposed to a motor doing it for you. and it's 1/3 the price. i juice mainly leafy greens, carrots and apples. it does a nice job with them all. it's true that carrots and apples etc. need preparation that would not be required with a powerful, centrifugal maching with a wide feed-chute. (i give the carrots a coarse julienne cut and quarter the apples.) others have remarked that these types of juicers (the auger type) don't do justice to fruits, which may be true of most fruits. but i've found that i get a decent return on oranges. i have come to believe that the juice tastes...

Not For The Dishwasher
This juicer has two juicer attachments to juice large fruits, (grapefruits) or small fruits, (lemons and limes). Very easy to use, but not ready for the dishwasher. Very easy to take it apart and hand-wash. The first juicer became warped when we put it in the dishwasher. This purchase was simply a replacement.

Bulky, but works great
I've owned this juicer for over 5 years and it works like a charm for extracting juice from large quantities of limes, lemons or oranges. It is heavy and solidly built, and the lever action runs right through the center of the juicer so no problems with tipping. Not much effort required to get the handle all the way down, which extracts all the juice. If you want to get every last drop, rotate the fruit 1/4 turn and press again, but you get about 95% on the first squeeze. The only down side is the that it is large, heavy and bulky. It would be best if you have the counter space to leave it out all the time. I don't, so it probably gets less use than it otherwise would as I have to haul it out of the cupboard every time. It might work well in an appliance garage too.

Jupiter versus Hamilton Beach
If you've done your homework, you are likely deciding between the Jupiter and the Hamilton Beach. Both of them will last a lifetime. They are both sturdy and neither will try to tip over on you as you exert pressure on the handle. Your choice will be personal preference. If you're going to be spending hours pressing juice or you don't have much pressing strength, go with the Hamilton Beach. It's easiest to press. But know that the Hamilton Beach, because it doesn't press the heck out of the fruit, makes more watery juice. The Jupiter presses more firmly on the fruit, which means that although it requires a little more muscle, you can get some pulp in the strainer, which you can throw in with the juice. Me, I like a little pulp. Additionally, the Jupiter fits under your kitchen cabinets, which the Hamilton Beach does not. I needed a citrus juicer since the motor on a almost new Black and Decker juicer started smoking and turned quickly into trash. The first batch was made with a manual juicer from half of a 5-lb bag of lemons. Even with evenly distributed pressure, it will rotate quickly back and forth until you let up. There must be some sort of trick to this, but I would think a juicer wouldn’t need tricks. I then decided to buy an inexpensive electric juicer, which I used to juice the other half of my lemons. I have also had this juicer get so warm to the touch that I had to stop and let it cool off: obviously you can’t do large batches at a time. I thought this juicer would be okay for that, and it does works OK with some setbacks. This machine cleans easily, works well, keeps the seeds out of the juice, and can be adjusted for a little or a lot of pulp in the juice.
