life is now a little easier - GREAT printer and scanner!
I recently have had the pleasure of installing and using this new printer from HP.Out of the box, this printer is a bit larger than I expected. It has trays, the double-sided print attachment, and feeders that make the size physically a bit larger than my last home desktop printer.Setup out-of-the-box was ok but has room for improvement, at least based on my experience. The reason this product gets 4 stars instead of 5 is that despite being wireless, I simply could not get the unit to connect to my machine without using the USB cable. I setup the printer according to the instructions, and then was able to connect to my home network's router. I entered my password, and presto, the printer said it was connected. However, after multiple attempts at installing the included software, rebooting both the printer and my home machine, I just couldn't get it to connect wirelessly. Great all-in-one
This is a great printer and it served my needs well. I don't have much desk space, so having an all-in-one product was a great solution. It takes up about 19 by 15 inches of desk space. It is a very good looking printer... sleek and all black. The printer came with a 23 page Getting Started Guide and also a quick start chart which made it easy to get everything up and running. I chose the network (Ethernet) connection to connect my printer and it was fairly easy to get started with my printing. It was a good thing I had a spare usb cable to connect the printer to my computer, because it wasn't included. So far I have been really happy with the quality of the print outs, both color and black prints. I don't know how long the ink cartridges will actually last, but they are supposed to be high capacity cartridges with "the lowest cost per page compared with in-class inkjet all-in-ones." I have used only Hewlett-Packard printers since I bought my computer a decade ago, in 2001. My choice was simple, as these printers earn high ratings year after year. I print out a lot of photography for both family photos and magazine photos, and also regular printing. I also write and print an abundance of family history pages and articles for a collectibles magazine. I use my printers heavy duty and I am on my second printer since 2001. My HP printers have a life span of around 5 years, which is unheard of, as the average printers lifespan is around 2 years. My printers have always been the HP Ink Jet Photosmart models as they give me the best quality photographs, both color and black and white, on my favorite HP soft gloss paper. The All-In-One That Does it All
If you're looking for a printer with all the latest technologies, check out the HP Officejet 6500 Wireless. Keep in mind that HP makes two 6500 models--one is wireless and one is not. This is the wireless model. With copy, scan, print and fax functions this all-in-one is a real workhorse. Fast speed (up to 31 ppm) and extremely easy to use. The setup function is all done via software--you don't even need to touch the 6500's keypad controls. It links directly to your System Preferences control panel making the wireless and fax settings easy. It uses 4 separate color inks, so you can control your print costs when only a single color needs to be replaced.Main drawback is HP's decision to only include a 2-line text display. For a printer in this price range, HP should have included a 2.5" color LCD screen. If you're looking for a multifunction machine that does it all, seriously consider the HP 6500 Wireless.

Wireless printer
I looked and researched wireless printers and was going crazy. This one had all postive reviews so I decided to order it. I wanted an all in one printer/scanner/copy/ fax and wireless. At 149.00 dollars sale price I decided to go for it.It came in a huge box and I thought what the heck did I order and when I took it out of the box it was bigger than my other all in one, but the double sided printing attachment adds some bulk (I have not tried this feature). It is noisier than my HP 4280 all in one, but that is not a big deal.Set up was fairly easy, I just followed the instruction set up page. The software took a long time to install. I am familiar with printer set ups and installing software so no problem there just time consuming. It came with everything I needed including the USB cord (usually not included). The fax was easy to set up and send (I have not received a fax yet)It has speed dial too. The wireless works perfectly from my laptop. I'm familiar with HP software...

Excellent print quality, but clunky sounding and HUGE drivers
Yes, the print quality is beautiful, but I'm not as overjoyed as the previous reviewers.The printer driver alone is 245 MB. That's almost as big as my entire MS Office suite! WHY??? With few of its optional programs included (an additional 100 MB or so), it took a good 20 minutes to copy and install the software from the disk onto my desktop computer and complete the initial setup.I had expected that once the machine was installed on my wireless network using my desktop, that our laptops on the network could simply detect it and add it with the Windows Add Printer function, if all they wanted was print capability--maybe by grabbing a small driver off the internet or from the machine itself. But oh, no. This thing has to be installed from the disk for each machine, and took 20 minutes each to install on our XP laptops, and almost 30 minutes on our VISTA machine. Having trouble? Perhaps this will help. (BTW: This really is a decent little unit)
First, let me preface by saying that I am not "tied" to any particular brand or model. I've had, and/or still have: Epsons, Canons, HPs and Lexmarks (I tend to shy away from Lexmarks low end units, but the higher end units work fine) and they ALL have their good apples and their bad apples. I, for the life of me, simply cannot label this as a bad apple. And believe me, after reading all the negative reviews, I tried! It works without flaw on Vista 32 bit, Vista 64 bit and Windows 7 64 bit RC1(Using the Vista 64 bit drivers). Both via USB and via WiFI with an old Linksys WRT54GL./PREFACE OFFI work out of my SUV and needed a small printer/copier to use while I was on the road. This so happened to be on sale a few weeks ago and was the cheapest AIO, with the exception of the Lexmark which I was not willing to purchase, so I bought it. I got it home, preformed the normal new printer setup ritual, contemplated some sort of ceremonial dance due to all the negative...

It just works (even with Linux)
First of all, I must make clear I'm using this printer with computers running Ubuntu Linux, using version 2.8.10 of the HPLIP driver software (the first version to support it). I have no comments on the Windows or Mac software that comes with the printer, as I don't use it.I set the printer up with the control panel it has, it found my home network (802.11g, WPA2 encryption) immediately and I entered the network password and it connected first time. (after a power cut later, it reconnected itself fine).The printer setup on my Linux computer automatically found the printer (wirelessly) without any problem and configured it in under a minute. Printed test page fine.I've since printed other documents, done a 400MB full-page 1200dpi scan, sheet fed photocopies, enlarged photocopies etc all without any problem. All wireless (where applicable), haven't needed to plug the USB cable in. It just works. I haven't had any reason to test the fax features...

Picking up this unit, I had pretty high expectations. HP has always produced excellent printers; in fact, back in the 90s they were better known as a printer (and possibly calculator) manufacturer than a PC brand. A Huge Change for Printing
To start off, this printer was a HUGE upgrade for me. I had been using a Canon printer/scanner/copier for the past couple of years, which was fine but didn't do more than was intended. I have a small home office and use this printer primarily for business type tasks. I replaced a Samsung All-in-One Laser printer with this HP All-in-One. I will also be writing reviews for other devices that I use for business travel and backcountry backpacking including: HP Officejet Pro 8500A Plus AirPrint enabled printer, Solio Rocsta H1000 Solar Charger and Verizon MiFi 2200, five device 3G mobile broadband HotSpot. This printer is awesome! It is a huge upgrade from our old one. It is extremely easy to set up. The printer basically has it's own e-mail address, so anything you can attach to an email, including pdfs, word, & xcel, etc. can be sent directly to your printer. No adding the printer to the network for every pc that will print on it.This means you can send things from any computer, iPod, iPad device that has email function. I can prepare documents from anywhere in the world, email them to my printer, & they're sitting in the tray when I get to the office.It is a standalone machine, meaning you can scan things directly onto a jump drive...you dont need to route it through your computer first, which is great when I'm in a hurry.Highly recommended, & very easy to use.

Can you fall in love with a printer? I just did (and NO, I am not associated with HP. I'm just a small business owner who does quite a lot of printing! For the past couple of years, I've been using the HP Photosmart (3200 series) and this one is such a huge improvement I can't even begin to count the ways!For one thing, it has this sleek state-of-the-art look, with an intelligently-positioned color touchscreen panel that reminds me of a GPS. It's highly intuitive and easy to use. There are plenty of choices, including work smart tips, eco tips, and digital office tips.
