Great for My Needs
I bought a Zojirushi 1L carafe and was very happy with it. Then read in the instructions that there was an option to put a Manual Drip Filter Cone that could be used to make coffee directly into the carafe. I checked it out on Amazon but saw a lot of criticisms that gave me pause. But slowly I started checking them out one by one and found them either to be wrong or irrelevant. The most important criticisms that I saw was that the thing dripped too slowly and was structurally unbalanced. One reviewer made the claim that their Melitta One cup cone had 4 holes and thus drained coffee quickly. I also own a Melitta one cup drip cone and found that (despite claims to the contrary) there is only one hole in that device and that did not prevent the Melitta one cup from making coffee in less 30 secondsThere was also a claim that Melitta's 10 cup Cone/Carafe would be better as it would be faster than this Manual Drip Coffee Cone. But I checked out the Melitta at a...

Works great -- important how-to-use detail
Every coffee making device in my house broke recently -- the glass on the french press, the electric percolator, etc. I decided to buy this cone holder for a thermos carafe I have that has a flip-up lid. I wasnt sure if this would work, but it does, and the lid is not in the way. It's a close call, but it does fit. I'm pleased with the way it drips, I dont find it too slow. The unit also is bigger than I envisioned. Right now I'm using up a pack of Bunn filters that arent even meant for this type of filter holder, but I can make do. After this, I'll get the tallest cone filters, and that should make this whole arrangement Sweet! This was kind of expensive with the expedited shipping, over $17, but I am glad to have it, coffee tastes great, and I think it will work well with another carafe I had forgotten I had. It's a sturdy item, too -- should last indefinitely.UPDATE SIX MONTHS LATER: The reason some people had trouble with this isnt because of the one hole,...

Great for Camping
This is a wonderful product and perfect for camping. Low energy use (just boil water), fast (the reviewer who thought otherwise probably ground her coffee too finely), compact, simple to use and clean. The filter extension that fits into the throat of the container is a very stable design and the coffee stays warm for hours in any standard thermos or carafe. I've owned one for years and never leave home for the desert or mountains without it. Two thumbs up!

A Good Way to Start making Good Coffee
I like this product. It is inexpensive, has filters that can be found anywhere, and provides real coffee taste in instant coffee quantities and time. This is great for me, because I do not drink more than 1 cup at a time, and making any more would just waste coffee time and money. This cone allows you to come up with your own perfect brewing recipe without wasting pounds and pounds of coffee. The way the beans are roasted, the quality of those beans, the amount of coffee grounds you use and how they're ground, the temperature of the water: all of these have a bearing on the taste of your coffee.First, the water:The industry standard for the ideal cup of coffee begins with a water temperature of 195-205 degrees. This is not quite boiling, which is why the "Monsieur Brew" brands make such bad coffee. Brewing with water at the boiling point over-extracts the beans, making for an overly bitter-tasting result.Use a food thermometer to find this...

Add coffee to water, stir, then pour into filter
I've been using the Melitta system for over 20 years, and about 5 years ago starting using a new technique, which I like better. So here it is.First, I fill my coffee cup with hot tap water to preheat it. Then fill the Melitta brew cone with a #4 filter, and wet it down with hot tap water. I like the over size # 4 filters, it keeps grounds from going down the side of the filter using this technique.Next, I heat room temperature spring water in a Pyrex glass measuring cup, using a microwave. If you measure the water, you can easily get the right microwave time to produce 185 F degrees. For me, it's about 1:50 for 8 oz. You want to avoid adding the coffee to boiling (212 F) water, it can make the coffee taste bitter. If it boils, let it cool for 60 seconds or so.Then, I add the coffee, measured with a scooper, directly into the Pyrex cup full of hot water, and stir vigorously for 10-15 seconds. If you want, you can wait a little longer, depends on your...

Good Product
Well, first off, let me say that I'm happy with this purchase. The cone is solidly constructed and appears to be high-quality. The handle is not "linguini thin" as one reviewer said. It is normal, by my standards (I was pleasantly surprised). It is not made in USA however, as the headline/name suggests. It is a German product. No biggie--still a well-manufactured item. One reviewer commented that the drain hole is too large, and they get weak coffee. Please look online to see how to make coffee using a filter cone. I've been using filter cones for years (the yucky plastic kind until I got my ceramic cone!) and this is my method: run water through the paper filter first. Put coffee (plenty) into paper filter/cone. Now this is imperative--pour just a tablespoon or two of hot water onto the grounds. Wait. Let the coffee "bloom" for at least 30 seconds. One minute is better. Then slowly pour more water in.Okay that's my review. Cheers and happy coffee drinking!

Frieling Cilio Compared to HIC
I had a difficult time comparing this to the HIC version that's significantly cheaper. I ended up getting both, and this one is the one I'll keep. I've uploaded some product photos to help others make the comparison.- Weight and thickness: the HIC is significantly heavier and thicker than the Frieling Cilio. I like the lighter weight of this one.- Number of drain holes: HIC has three, Frieling Cilio has one larger one. No noticeable difference in draining time.- Outer diameter of bottom rim: this is the ring that helps keeps the filter holder in place on your carafe. Frieling Cilio has a smaller diameter (2 7/16") vs. HIC (2 3/4"). My carafe opening diameter is also 2 3/4" which makes the HIC very awkward and unsteady. Your carafe needs to have a larger diameter opening than the bottom rim on the filter holder.Small differences, but they add up. I like the Frieling Cilio much better; it's worth the extra cost.

An excellent piece of porcelain
I bought size six and LOVE it. Just what I needed. I wanted to get away from heated plastic. And this is just the ticket. It's hard porcelain. Shiny and white. Makes great coffee with a number 6 paper filter. Yes, yes. You must use a paper filter. But paper is not plastic; and I was trying to get away from plastic. Great product.

Unsurpassed Coffee
I have been using a Chemex 10-cup coffee maker for over a year and half, and have never had such good coffee before in my life. I am constantly looking forward to my next pot of coffee! There is a downside to this coffee maker: it is a more manual procedure than what you are used to, and it also takes a couple of pots to learn how to use this most efficiently. The first time I tried to use mine, I had ground my coffee way too finely and it just took forever! The big time consumers: you have to boil your water separately (you do have a water kettle right?) and then you have to gradually pour the boiled water through the Chemex. This means that while the coffee is brewing, you are pouring, or watching, or giving the filter area a bit of a stir. Now the up side: you will never ever ever drink a better cup of coffee. I use filtered water, freshly ground home roasted beans, and this Chemex to produce the finest coffee I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. And this...

Product Description

Few products in this century can match the flawless blending of design and function of the Chemex®. Its visual elegance has earned it a place in the permanent collection of New York's Museum located in Corning, New York. The Chemex® coffeemaker was also selected by the Illinois Institute of Technology as one of the 100 best designed products of modern times. The Chemex® coffeemaker, together with Chemex-Bonded® coffee filters, makes perfect coffee; clear, pure, flavorful, and without bitterness or sediment every time. The coffee only comes in contact with the scientifically designed filter and non-porous glass. With the Chemex® method, you can make coffee as strong as you like without bitterness. Perfect for iced coffee and coffee flavoring for gourmet recipes. Because of its purity, Chemex® brewed coffee can be covered and stored in the refrigerator for heating...without losing its flavor! Chosen as one of the 100 best designed products of modern times, the Chemex® coffeemaker is found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Smithsonian and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, as well as in fine gourmet stores everywhere. This merging of form and function came out of Chemist Peter Schlumbohm's taste for fine flavor. Applying the techniques used to insure laboratory purity, he set out to brew what may have been the first cup of truly clear, full-bodied coffee - free of undesirable fats, oils, sediment and most of all...bitterness. For five decades the coffeemaker that was once available only to a circle of acquaintances has been enjoyed by connoisseurs around the world. But the Chemex® coffeemaker's greatest distinction is that once it brews coffee to the most exacting personal requirements, the filter and grounds are removed in a single package, leaving a carafe as at home with fine china as it is with the first cup of morning coffee. NOTE: Prefolded Chemex filter squares (item #: CPFS) are required for operation all Chemex coffee makers. Top to learn more

My favorite appliance...
Using a Chemex requires water to be heated in a tea kettle prior to brewing, and it requires a finer ground than what auto-drip machines ask for. After the water is brought to a boil, it's important to wait for it to cool just slightly (about 30 seconds) and then you need to wet the grounds in the filter, wait for them to drain, and then fill the pot with water. Want more than a single cup of coffee? You wait for your first pour to brew, and then fill the filter again. Some advantages over other forms of coffee brewing:1. Taste: I don't know how it does it, but the filter does keep your coffee from being bitter.2. Cleanability: Users can keep all necessary components clean (anyone who's brewed water and vinegar through their coffee maker to kill off a bitter taste that wasn't there when you bought it understands this plight). Oftentimes, the most aggressive criticism of the Chemex is its ponderousness to clean because it's not possible to get...

Simply the best coffee ever
After my last coffee maker died (the fourth or fifth one in just eight years), I was sick of the electric coffee pot. This very simple set-up was inexpensive and doesn't have any electrical parts to break. The best thing, though, is that this makes the best coffee ever. Seriously. Here's the method: I grind my beans right before brewing. I pour boiling water over the grounds, just enough to soak them. Then I pour again to fill the filter with water. And I stir with a spoon. Pour and stir, pour and stir, until all the water has gone through. Simple, easy, and amazingly good coffee. It's way better than anything I got from my overpriced electrical machines.

Great coffeemaker
As a kid in the 70s and 80s, my parents had one of these. Not being a coffee drinker, I always thought it was embarrassingly low tech. Now that I'm an adult (though still not a big coffee drinker), I wanted something inexpensive that wouldn't take up a lot of counter space, would be easy to care for and would make decent coffee. After looking at various options, I finally settled on this one, and I'm glad I did. Not only does it work perfectly well, as advertised, it also makes great-tasting coffee (which is more than I can say about the little stovetop percolator I tried before investing in this one). It's also easy to store in my cabinet when not in use.Two additional notes: The coffee maker calls for size 6 filters, and those are great to have when you're making a full pot. But if you're just making coffee for 2-3 people, I've found size 4 filters work fine, and they're cheaper and easier to come by. I've also found that the coffee filter cone will also work with...

Solid; good glazing; my morning friend
This is a solid piece of ceramic with good glazing. It rests securely on either a coffee mug or my old Mr. Coffee carafe. This cone has three holes in the bottom, a feature which I have come to see doesn't make much difference. Apparently, how fine the coffee is ground determines the flow rate more than the number of holes. Once the coffee is through the filter paper, it is going to flow at a steady rate through one hole or three. This cone is a little heavy, but I feel that it will last a long time. The handle is nice and thick.I bought this item after trying the more expensive Frieling/Cilo and having bad luck with two of them. (You can see my review on that item's page.)Using a cone of any type seems to make better coffee than the many drip machines I've tried over the years. You can control the temperature and flow of the water exactly the way you want.Enjoy!UPDATE: Have had this now over two months, using...

Manual drip coffee makers commonly are available in single cup to twelve cup varieties and in essence give you similar results as an automatic drip coffee brewer. Drip coffee makers continue being the most popular style of coffee maker found in most households these days. Obviously the choice between having an automatic or a manual drip coffee maker is essentially based on your personal coffee drinking needs and preferences. While having good quality coffee is significant, let us not fail to remember that role played in brewing that delicious cup of hot steaming coffee by your coffee maker and plan your purchase for that reason. The manual drip coffee maker pot or cup is an important factor to reflect on. Do you intend to make a single cup or ten cups. The filter holders are available in hundreds of varieties but you usually get one with your manual drip coffee maker. Do you understand that drip coffee makers are available in 2 differing types, specifically the automatic version along with the manual version. The most important part of any coffee maker is the type of coffee you use. It is important to do some research prior to just dashing out and purchasing the very first manual or automatic drip coffee maker that you just see on the shelf. Both types have their pros and cons, however in this article we will look into the features of the manual drip coffee maker.

So in order to deposit everything in place, this article could help you or always increase your probability in bringing family the aptly coffee apparatus by determining uncommon kinds of coffee apparatus unfilled.   For more flexible coffee mixture, the drip coffee apparatus might be aptly pro you. When the coffee apparatus reaches the aptly fill up warmth, it will pour to the coffee in the filter. There are two types of drip coffee apparatus: Automatic and blue-collar. The method of automatic drip is to pour cold fill up to the reservoir and place coffee on the filter. But it does not involuntarily exclude with the intention of detail with the intention of here are persons who be inflicted with in some way landed on the exact coffee apparatus.

When the water and sugar mixture boils, add the coffee powder, stir well and pour through a traditional cloth coffee strainer (or a paper filter). However, I’ll admit that I’m a bit of a coffee nerd and there’s a lot of other ways to make coffee when you’re out in the woods. The filters are put at the neck of the Chemex, grounds are added to the filter, hot water is poured manually over them and the coffee drips into the glass chamber below. Boiling: Coffee grounds boiled in water or submerged into water above the boiling point. Steeping: Water is poured on coffee grounds and steeps for a period of time. For each cup of water, use a heaping Tbsp of good coffee ground for espresso. Pressure: Hot water is forced through coffee grounds with a strong force. Filtering: Hot water poured over grounds, the water drains through a filter and into a pot below. This an old (invented in 1941) brewing method that has come back in style because it makes bright, clean and smooth coffee. Here’s two different methods that require only fire, a pot, coffee and a clean source of water. It heats the coffee grounds beyond it’s optimal brewing temperature and creates a bitter taste. Most people I know brew their coffee the same way every morning. For the love of good coffee, don’t use a boiling method. I know a handful of folks who enjoy a bit more variety, but I’ve yet to meet anyone who can say that they’ve made coffee 22 different ways.
