This book is an outpouring of Richard's vast knowledge of the medium. He extrapolates on the topics of those blogs with easy to follow instructions in an organized format. Beginners and experienced pastel artists will benefit from this book. No wonder he's such a popular and successful workshop leader.

Pastel Pointers is a must
It's not at all surprising that Richard Mckinley has written such a lovely, thorough yet concise book. This book is not one of those art books you buy, then sits on your shelf; it's a useful reference tool for your art studio. It is well written, well organized and has wonderful examples of Richards' stunning work in it. It is full of practical information; I love the section about traveling with pastels. But this book also speaks to the larger issues of what makes a painting great and what an artist can work on to move in the directions they'd like to go. Richard has such a wealth of information that he's warmly and generously shared in his popular workshops over the years. Although, there's nothing like attending one of his workshops, this book is a close second. If you paint in pastel, you need this book!

Pastel Pointers from a modern master
Finally!!! I have been following Richard McKinley's pointers from the emails and blog posts for quite a while now. Now he has put some of the top ones in a single book. If you are a pastel painter like I am this book is an absolute must for your library. I have only one big wish for the future, that he writes another book very soon.

Exactly what I hoped for
I own a , the predecessor to this product and one of the most popular wireless presenters on Amazon. As I wrote in my 4-star review of that device back in March of this year: "One way that Kensington could make their next model more useful would be for the USB adapter to double as a thumbdrive. Since you'll be plugging it into the host computer anyway, why not put your presentation on it?"My prayers were answered.This model is practically identical to its predecessor; why mess with a good design? This program worked!
My son, who was 14 at the time, went through the Pointer System. Once he had completed the 4 books on his own, we paid for piano lessons. The teacher was amazed that he could have learned so much from books. After just 6 months of lessons, this professional piano teacher said she had nothing more to teach him! My son is 20 now and still loves to play. He plays the classics beautifully!My daughter, age 9, wants to play piano like her brother. So, I was really glad to find the Pointer System books again! An easy and fun way to learn piano
I used this system when I was learning piano. Now that my son is learning piano, I was delighted to find this book. It makes learning the piano easy. It goes step by step and provides the theroy of music so by the end of the series you have the tools to advance in your piano playing. This is a good buy.

Pointer makes learning fun
Pointer is a great supplement to your main piano course because it makes learning fun, and teaches important chord theory. There is no one system that can meet the serious pianist's needs. Pointer won't teach proper technique and basics like Thompson, Schaum or Hanon, or build strength and agility like Fingerpower or Czerny, but it is a good supplement because Pointer is fun whereas those other methods are great but not always fun.
