A Disciplined Approach to Devotions
I have read all of Donna's books and eagerly awaited this latest title. It follows the same format I've grown so accustomed to: Scripture reading and memorization, guided prayer, my own personal prayer, a daily affirmation and practical suggestions on making the Word come alive. This book really is cool for people with mental problems
I have Fibromyalgia and Chronic Depression and am filing for Total Disability. I once made over $100,000.00 per year - now, I barely manage to function.I was shopping for a self help book because I have always had problems with the question "Who am I?" In fact, the first question my new church councelor asked me is "Do you know who you are?" My husband always told me to define myself by what I do; what I am able to produce. When I became sick with Fibro, I could only work (and do that at an extreme cost to my health) and my housework, being a good mother and wife went by the wayside. Then I couldn't even work, I was too sick. I quickly saw that defining myself by what I do/produce is not a true way to answer "Who am I" because if production defines a person, then I am already dead. Good book on who we are in Christ.
"Victory Over The Darkness" was a book that I really looked forward to reading. I have been intrigued by the concept of being a new creation in Christ ever since I read "Alive for the First Time" by David Needham a couple of years ago. After seeing a video Mr. Anderson did about forgiveness in one of my seminary classes, I wanted to learn more about his ideas, since they seemed to echo Needham's. So it was with anticipation that I began reading this book. Anderson's theme in "Victory Over The Darkness" is the Christian's status as a new creation in Jesus Christ. As Christians, we are alive in Him, and are no longer dead in our sins. We are spiritual beings - indwelt by the Holy Spirit and reliant upon his power. If this were not the case, then we would be unable to experience change on a fundamental, spiritual level. After reading every self-help and psychology book known to man,desperately searching for answers, trying to find some new *miracle* that might help me *cure* my addicted daughters, I picked up this book. I made it through the first two chapters and had to stop and allow the tears to flow freely. Finally, someone understood what I had been feeling for ten years in dealing with the anguish, the shame, the denial, and the fear. A bible for parents of drug addicted children
Let me start by saying I do not like self help books. This book is the one book I have recommended highly through my ordeal with a drug dependent child. This is a man who has been there and learned the hard way (as most of us do) how to take care of himself and the rest of his family while still loving your child. He reminds us that when a child is high on drugs, you are not having a conversation with your child, you are having a conversation with the drug. Please read this book and highlight the passages you need when your child is conning you and making you feel guilty.

Parents don't need to feel responsible only compassion
Finally a book that recognizes that not all children that become drug addicted came from abusive and bad families. This book addresses the parents that have loved and adored their children from birth. In fact, it addresses the parents that thought they did it all right. Loving, supportive environments were provided. And when the trouble begins (school calling, police involved) the parent who is bailing their kid out of trouble, but can never seem to fix them. Things only get worse. This book tells you why you can NEVER fix your kids. Thank you for this book. My heart is broken, my pocketbook is broken, but I can finally stop. When I was originally asked about reviewing this book, I didn’t know much about it. The title held a lot of promise and I thought it would be a wonderful book to read and implement in my life. This book is New Age philosophy with a little bit of scripture thrown in. It is literally the philosophies of men mingled with scripture. To say that the mutterings and chants that the book says you need to do made me uncomfortable would be an understatement. I would recommend that you step away from it and turn to the actual word of God found in His scriptures. Books that are the philosophies of men, mingled with scripture are NOT the way.

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything... ) about the Bible and offered me some scripture to help guide my steps.
