Lawn Hog - Aptly Named
I purchased the Lawn Hog 12amp 19" from Amazon.com in April/2005. I have a large yard area. My front and back yards combined equal, at least, approximately 8,000sq. ft.Over the years, I have had numerous different gas mowers. My last gas mower was a Sears 6.5HP 22" Self-Propelled with a Briggs&Stratton engine.Pulling 15-20 times to start it (sometimes it took even more pulls) gets very tiring and frustrating! Don't they all claim a "3-push 1-Pull Start"? I decided to search online at Amazon.com for reviews of electric mowers. I hate having to mess with gas, oil, tune-ups, noise, shaking that made my hands numb during mowing (which I finally mitigated by wearing gel-padded cycling gloves).My grass is "tall fescue" - it grows very thick - I live in the high desert in the Antelope Valley, CA (elev. 2346 ft.). great alternative to gas mowers. lot of plusses
We just moved from a condo to a house which has around 7000+ sqft lawn in the front and around 1500+ sqft lawn at the back. Being new to this I did a lot more research before buying a lawn mower. Our first dilemma was to decide between gas and electric. Few things which came up in the comparison, general to gas and electric mower, were:- gas is more powerful than electric. It might be true but this never is a problem even if you mow once in 3-4 weeks. We are quite happy with the power.- cord management: You get used to it once you plan the layout and how you'll mow the lawn. You always start from close to the outlet and go far away from it. This way cord always follows you and you don't run the risk of running it over. Although, you should still be watchful of it.- maintenance: Definitely less worries with electric mowers. no gas, no oils, no smell in the garage, no special handling when storing it away for the season, no servicing before the season starts...

After years of using my Dad's gas powered lawn mower, I am finally a home owner myself and embarking onto the wonderful world of home and yard improvement. One of the items that I needed badly was a lawnmover and after looking at all the different types and models I settled upon this one. Overall, I am pleased with my new lawnmower as it did the thing it was supposed to do with relative ease at a very affordable price. It really is a pleasure to not have to hassle with gas or to worry about whether I charged the battery. Just plug it in and go. My yard is a sufficient size to not battle the cord the whole time so I found the cord battle to be minimized with some simple mowing-route planning. CMM1200 Black&Decker Cordless Lawnmower
I just purchased this mower and mowed my lawn today. First, the positives:1. This thing is as-advertised. There's no assembly required other than arranging the mulching bag and removing the mulcher - if that's what you want to do.2. It was incredibly easy to start this thing - insert key and lift lever.3. No mess, no gas, no oil, no air filter. The only maintenance described in the service manual is blade sharpening (once to twice per year) and battery replacement. (Possible two years?).4. Charging the unit is as easy as charging a cell phone and it charged up overnight. It had enough juice to mow my 1/3rd acre lot with heavy spring weeds that were also a little wet without running out of battery juice.5. It was very easy to clean. First, I would like to thank those who posted comments previously. They were very helpful in knowing what to expect when my new B&D lawn mower arrived. I had also previously purchased similar cordless rechargeable lawn and garden tools (a small hedge trimmer and blower) which had reassured me that this electric lawn mower would be a good fit. Like most of you, whenever I go to buy an appliance or tool on the internet I read the customer reviews to try to get a feel for the product's long term performance before I invest in it. First electric mower...great first impressions
I've just bought my first house and the yard was finally long enough to need a cut this weekend.We have a pretty small lot, maybe 1/4 acre, and the backyard had almost no grass because of the way it was landscaped. I decided that I didn't need a big self-propelled mower, and originally through maybe I'd get a reel mower before I decided that keeping the blades in shape would be too much of a bother.I did a little research and found that the MM875 had excellent reviews here on Amazon. This one, the MM1800, had no reviews, but from everything I see it's exactly the same but with a slightly narrower cutting diameter.I ended up picking it up from Lowes, and then made another trip back after realizing that my extension cord was only 25' and not quite enough for my hard.The mower is really very light and easy to set up in about 5 minutes. well performing machine
I had the previous B&D model for over 12 years. I still have it for parts. This machine is designed a tad bit differently but it performs well. It now has a padded handle and the top deck is a bit higher. I don't like the larger deck but now grass won't get under the 'hood' that used to be there which made cleanup a bit more on the older model. The height adjuster is better too, with just a squeeze you can go up or down very fast. So far this machine has met all my expectations. I let someone else use a gas mower on my lawn since I'm having back trouble and my hill in the back yard makes walking hard for me. Well, that said, I went right back to my mowing the next time. The gas mower did a horrible job on my lawn and this man had a new mower too. He could run faster than I do but it was a very bad job. He didn't mean to do this, he had a good machine and does make it look nice for a day or two.After I mowed it the next time, people even stopped and told me how beautiful my yard...

I've had cheap gas mowers that wouldn't start and very expensive gas mowers that wouldn't start. No matter how high the quality of the engine there was always something that needed tending to. A couple months ago I went out and bought yet another gas mower. Got it home, put it together, added oil, gassed it up and of course it wouldn't start. So I took it back and the garden center and the people there couldn't get it to start either. Fortunately they refunded my money and took the thing back. Good! Better than previous version.
I purchased the Black and Decker Cordless 24 volt mulching mower (CMM1000) in 2005 and have been using it ever since. When I had the opportunity to upgrade to this mower (CM1836) I jumped on it.I wanted a cordless electric mower to:- Not have to deal with gas and oil- Be able to mow without feeling like I need a shower due to exhaust fumes- Save my hearing- Keep me from re-injuring my right shoulder by not having to pull the cord to start- MulchThe CMM1000 did all of those fantastically for 4 1/2 years for me and the CM1836 improves on most features. I'm really happy to have the newer version. I know I have just barely used this mower and I promise to update this review if anything changes. It's won me over from gas
About 13 years ago I bought a battery powered lawn mower made by Black and Decker (I think it was their first). In many ways it was perfect: quiet, clean, easy to use. It only had one minor flaw that might discourage the user: it didn't actually cut grass. It was more of a "grass brusher", or perhaps a "grass massager" - bathing the grass in a gentle breeze without harming any wildlife, or grass.I'm happy to say that 13 years later B&D seem to have worked the bugs out.I've been able to use this mower three times now and I'm happier with it each time: it's light, quiet, easy to use, and yes, it cuts grass. I've even used it to mulch up small branches after pruning with great results. While not nearly as powerful as my gas mower it actually does a better job of mulching, perhaps because it was clearly designed with mulching in mind. Great mower
We have owned the Neuton ce5 battery mower for years. it worked so well we were going to buy another until i saw this 36 volt b&d mower for $80 less.the black and decker is much more powerful and cuts a 18" swath compared to the neutons 14". i took my new b&d mower out and mowed all our lawns and a bunch of weeds in a field and it still had power to spare. the neuton would have run out long ago.the only thing i do not like about the b&d is that you can not take the battery out. it is convenient to be able to take out the neutons battery and charge it in the garage or house.besides that it is a much better deal than the neuton.

I just used this Earthwise mower for the first time today, first cut of the year. I live in the Cleveland, OH area and my yard is 100% Kentucky bluegrass. I live in a new home on your typical new-home-sized lot (read; not large). I don't recall the exact dimensions, but I believe it's something like 120' x 90' total, including where the house sits.I bought the mower and an extension cord on a Saturday using Amazon prime and had it shipped overnight. It was on my porch Monday when I got home from work. Nice! However, I see now that it's price is less than I paid for it just 4 days ago, but whatever. Good, not great.
ADDED 04/08/10:I forgot to come back to this with an update. The bagger works fine if I allow the weedwacked grass/weeds to dry first. Unfortunately, during the growing season, that means that the underlying grass/weeds grow up too high for the mower to handle, but works fine after the real fast growth stops.NOTE: the guard attached to the rear of the mowing deck was chewed up very quickly due to it folding under the mower when backing up = two choices: 1) don't back up while the mower is in operation (one-direction mowing), or B) quickly loose the guard.Still like and recommend this mower.Replaced my Sears cordless mulching mower (I'm a green kinda guy) as I needed more power and no mulching. Fantastic gas mower alternative!
Although, I don't own this exact brand/model. I own the "Task Force" version sold at Lowe's. However, I'm 99% positive these are the exact same just different marketing brands, but made by the same company...Great States Corp/American Lawn Mower Company. Anyhow, there are far too many similarities include styling, weight and prices for them to not be the same...so that's my caveat. But in general, I have a lawn mower VERY similar to this one. I love it! The bag attachment fits great into the paper yard waste bags that I use making that part easier, although the smaller opening than what I'm used to makes it a little harder to get the grass out. Very quiet, sounds like a vacuum cleaner or leaf blower than a traditional lawn mower. The only downside is the power cord...but with practice and technique that can be overcome. Good mower, bag useless
I purchased this mower so I would not have to maintain a gas powered and not have to worry about running to the gas station if I wanted to mow. It is very lightweight, making it easy to maneuver and push. It fits the bill as far as cutting.BUT, the bag is basrically useless. There is a hump right inside the bag where cut grass is supposed to enter it, making it impossible for cut grass to actually go into the bag. Also, the hole is so small, you have to grab handfuls of grass out of the bag to empty it. I live in a windy area, so if I use the mulching attachment, at least I don't have to rake the remnants left on the ground.
